申請前 · Before You Apply

Do I need prior experience to begin?
No prior experience is required for Shoden, the first level. What we look for is a sincere interest in careful, long-term study.
Is Reiki a religion?
No. Usui Reiki Ryōhō is taught within the Gakkai as a discipline of study, practice, and personal cultivation. While its historical development took place within the cultural context of Japan and many of its practices reflect that heritage, participation does not require adherence to any religion or belief system. Students from a wide variety of backgrounds are welcome.
Can I study online?
No. Instruction is offered exclusively in person. We believe the traditional teacher–student relationship, direct observation, shared practice, and careful guidance are essential parts of the educational approach of the Gakkai.
Where are courses held?
Courses are held in person at our teaching space. Specific session locations are confirmed with each student on enrolment. Additional locations will be announced as they become available.

授業について · About the Courses

Why twelve weeks for each level?
A longer arc allows time for study, reflection, guided practice, and integration between sessions — the qualities that shape a settled personal practice.
Are courses taught in person?
Yes. Instruction is offered face-to-face, allowing direct observation, personal guidance, and the quiet exchange that classroom study makes possible.
What should I bring to class?
Comfortable clothing, a notebook, and an attentive, open attitude are generally all that is required. Any additional materials will be discussed before the course begins.
How much practice is expected between classes?
Students are encouraged to maintain a regular personal practice throughout each twelve-week course. Consistency is valued more than duration, and even modest daily practice contributes meaningfully to long-term development.
Are there prerequisites for Okuden and Shinpiden?
Yes. Each level builds upon the previous one. Students are expected to complete the preceding course and demonstrate a sincere commitment to continued practice before progressing.

入学 · Enrollment

How is enrolment decided?
Enrolment is by application. We meet each prospective student before their first course to ensure the path is right for them, and for us.
Is tuition listed on the website?
Tuition and course details are discussed during the admissions process. We believe prospective students should first determine whether the Gakkai and its educational approach are an appropriate fit before making an enrollment decision.
How many students are accepted into each course?
Courses are intentionally kept small to allow careful instruction, meaningful discussion, and personal guidance. Exact class sizes may vary depending on the course and available space.

継続する稽古 · Continuing Practice

What happens after a course ends?
Graduates are welcomed into the ongoing life of the Gakkai — monthly Reiju gatherings, weekly online sittings, seasonal retreats, and continued contact with their teacher.
Do you offer certificates?
Students receive a certificate acknowledging completion of each course. Within the Gakkai, however, certificates are regarded as markers of study rather than measures of attainment. Our emphasis remains on sincere practice, continued learning, and personal cultivation.
Do I become a member of the Gakkai?
The Gakkai does not operate as a membership organization in the traditional sense. Students who complete a course are welcomed into the continuing life of the community through practice opportunities, gatherings, and ongoing study.
